The Olena Zelenska Foundation continues implementing the Room for Childhood project, aimed at building new homes for large foster families and developing family-based care in Ukraine.
As part of the new phase of the project in the Dnipropetrovsk region, two families have already received the keys to their new homes. In November 2025, the family of Alona and Volodymyr Chulichkov moved into their home in the city of Pidhorodne, and on April 1, 2026, the keys to a new home were handed over to the family of Svitlana Kryvonos in Kryvyi Rih.
The Chulichkov family has 14 years of parenting experience and has raised 21 children during this time. Today, 11 children live in their family. The new Room for Childhood made it possible for the family to move from unsafe housing into safe and adequate living conditions.
Svitlana Kryvonos is raising six children. With the start of the full-scale invasion, the family was forced to leave for Türkiye and later for Poland. Despite successful adaptation abroad, the family decided to return to Kryvyi Rih. Before moving into their new home, they lived in a cramped apartment. Today, the children have proper conditions for learning, development, and creative activities.
“We are not just building houses, we are creating conditions for children to grow up in a family. This is part of our systemic work to ensure that more families in Ukraine are able to take in children and provide them with stability and support,” said Victoria Romanova, Director of the Foundation.
The houses built within the project are barrier-free, single-storey homes with an area of approximately 210 square meters, fully equipped with furniture and appliances. They include five children’s rooms, as well as spaces for learning and creativity. The surrounding area features a playground and a protective shelter built in accordance with all safety standards.
We are grateful to our Danish partners for their support of family-based care.
The new phase of construction is being implemented with financial support from the A.P. Moller Relief Foundation. This cooperation provides for the construction of 10 houses in five regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Foundation continues to scale the project. Currently, 17 houses for large foster families are under construction across different regions of Ukraine.
As of today, 19 large foster families in 10 regions of Ukraine already have their own Room for Childhood.
The Olena Zelenska Foundation continues its systemic work, creating conditions for the development of family-based care in Ukraine.
