Severe frost and ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure continue to pose serious challenges to meeting basic needs - heat, electricity, and access to water.
Under these conditions, strengthening the energy resilience of critical infrastructure - healthcare, education, and the social sector - is particularly important. These institutions must operate without interruption, even during prolonged power outages.
The Olena Zelenska Foundation has promptly launched efforts to source and deliver generators, charging stations, inverters, and batteries for such facilities, working in cooperation with international partners.
“Energy resilience today is not only about light and heat. It is about the ability of hospitals, schools, and social institutions to continue operating and supporting people in the most difficult conditions of war. We are sincerely grateful to our international partners for their solidarity and support for Ukraine in strengthening this resilience,” said Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine.
The first results of this work include the delivery of generators to medical institutions.
With the support of the First Lady of the Czech Republic, Eva Pavlova, a 500 kW generator was delivered to Kyiv City Clinical Hospital №7. The multidisciplinary hospital has 470 beds and is home to one of the largest oncohematology departments in Ukraine. The generator ensures the hospital’s autonomous operation in the event of power supply disruptions. The delivery to Ukraine and the transfer to the hospital were carried out through the NGO PostBellum–Ukraine.
In addition, a 15 kW generator was delivered to Sosnytsia Hospital in the Chernihiv region, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Moldova. The hospital is a key medical institution for the community, providing secondary and palliative care. The equipment will allow the hospital to continue operating during power outages.
The Olena Zelenska Foundation will continue working to strengthen the energy resilience of critical infrastructure in Ukraine in cooperation with international partners.
