Traumatology Department of Chuhuiv Central Hospital restored with the support of Olena Zelenska Foundation

27 December 2023
The Chuhuiv Central Hospital, named after M.I. Kononenko, is a medical institution supported by the Foundation as part of its focus on healthcare.

Nina Horbachova, Director of Olena Zelenska Foundation and Iryna Pikalova, Member of the Board of the Foundation, together with Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration and Halyna Minaieva, Mayor of Chuhuiv, visited the hospital and inspected the restored traumatology department.

The department was renovated with funds from the regional and local budgets. Olena Zelenska Foundation purchased equipment for the traumatology department in the amount of 4,030,028 UAH, including medical furniture and equipment.

"When we first saw the doctors working here, we couldn't stay away. Not only are these people saving lives every day, they have transformed the basement of the hospital into medical departments and wards on their own. Today, the hospital is unrecognizable. There are currently 92 doctors working in the hospital, and 5 of them are in the traumatology department, which we helped rebuild. I’m genuinely happy that we managed to help them perform their extremely important work. Especially considering that the hospital is located just a few dozen kilometers away from the frontline," said Nina Horbachova, director of Olena Zelenska Foundation.

New modern medical beds with centralized oxygen supply and air conditioning were installed in all wards of the Traumatology Department, as required by the new standards. Medical cabinets, plaster tables, tables for minor surgical procedures and for intramuscular injections, fire protection system, computer equipment, furniture for the reception area, etc. were also installed.

Among the items purchased is a venous scanner, which is important for performing invasive procedures. It makes it easier to locate veins and provide intravenous therapy to patients.

"I have been working at Chuhuiv Hospital for over 40 years. And this is the first time that everything we asked for, without exception, has been purchased for our medical facility. And this happened in this extremely difficult time for the country. For me, as the director, it's just magic," said Viacheslav Grushka, director of the Chuhuiv Central Hospital.

"Such updated conditions  renovations, purchase of new equipment  will allow us to provide the highest quality medical services to the residents of Chuhuiv district and relieve other departments. Especially since the Chuhuiv district has become one of the districts where a large number of internally displaced persons from the eastern part of the region live  more than 50,000. As a result, the medical needs are increasing daily. We are sincerely grateful to the First Lady's Foundation for its attention to the Kharkiv region and for helping to restore this medical facility," added Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

This is not the first time Olena Zelenska Foundation has helped Chuhuiv Central Hospital. In the spring, we installed a 128 kW industrial generator that can power all four floors of the medical facility.

The Chuhuiv Central Hospital named after M.I. Kononenko did not stop working for a single day, even when the aggressor's troops were on the outskirts of the city in 2022. A year ago, in the fall of 2022, the hospital was hit by rockets. Almost all the buildings and premises of the medical facility were damaged. Today, the hospital has been partially restored and continues to operate.

In 2023, Chuhuiv Hospital treated over 7,000 inpatients and more than 160,000 outpatients (as of 26.12.2023). These are not only residents of the Chuhuiv community but also neighboring de-occupied communities and internally displaced persons.
