“Room for Childhood”
Construction of houses for large foster families
Goal
Building new houses for large foster families who lost their homes due to the full-scale war.
Results
Now, 15 large foster families in 8 regions of Ukraine have their new “room for childhood.” In 2025, a new project stage has started, focused on supporting large foster families willing to take in more children. The Foundation plans to build 20 more houses.
About the Project
“Room for Childhood” is a project implemented by the Olena Zelenska Foundation. It aims to provide housing for large foster families.
A large foster family (FBCH, family-based care home) is one in which foster parents have taken in 5 to 10 orphans or children deprived of parental care (from institutions).
The full-scale war stripped many such families of their homes.
During the first stage of construction, the Foundation built 15 houses in 8 regions of Ukraine for large foster families who lost their homes or were forced to leave due to hostilities or occupation. In December 2023, the families started settling in.
Now, the Olena Zelenska Foundation scales up the “Room for Childhood” project and launches a new stage to build homes for large foster families and foster families who aspire to become them, that is, to take in more children, but, in that perspective, need to expand and improve their housing conditions.

The construction uses CLT panels, a modern, environmentally sound material of fire-resistant, energy-efficient cross-laminated timber.
