Room for Childhood
Construction of houses for large foster families
Goal
Building new homes for large foster families to provide safe, stable, and dignified conditions for raising children.
Results
Eighteen large foster families in nine regions of Ukraine have already received new homes through the Room for Childhood project. Families began moving into the houses in December 2023. In 2025, a new phase of the project was launched to support additional large foster families and families willing to welcome more children. Currently, another 18 houses for large foster families are under construction.
About the Project
Room for Childhood is a project of the Olena Zelenska Foundation aimed at providing housing for large foster families and strengthening family-based care in Ukraine.
A large foster family is one in which parents raise five to ten orphans or children deprived of parental care.
The full-scale war left many such families without homes or forced them to leave their homes in temporarily occupied territories. As part of the first phase of the project, 18 houses were built in nine regions of Ukraine for families who lost their homes during the war.

The new phase of the project focuses on supporting families who are ready to welcome more children but require adequate housing conditions to do so. In this way, the project supports the state policy of deinstitutionalization and helps create opportunities for children to grow up in family environments.
