Support for large foster families

Goal

Providing large foster families with essential items for daily life and children’s education — learning devices, household appliances, charging stations, furniture, kitchenware, and other basic necessities — so that children can grow up in safe and dignified conditions.

Results

Between 2022 and 2026, more than 600 large foster families in Ukraine received humanitarian assistance from the Olena Zelenska Foundation. In 2025 alone, the Foundation supported 137 large foster families, including: 32 families in the Poltava region through humanitarian assistance, 105 families across Ukraine as part of the From House to Home initiative Beneficiaries included families from frontline and de-occupied territories, families forced to relocate due to the war, and newly established large foster families. Support for large foster families contributes to the development of family-based care in Ukraine and helps create a stable and safe environment for children who need care and protection.

About the Project

The Foundation provides humanitarian assistance to large foster families based on their individual needs.

The most common needs include building materials for home repairs, generators, heaters, household appliances, learning devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones), furniture, and sports equipment.

Six children—three boys and three girls—are standing and smiling in front of stacked boxes and a mattress. The boys are wearing blue shirts, and the girls are dressed in white dresses with hair accessories. Some of the boxes have labels attached.

In 2022–2023, assistance was provided to families in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Dnipro regions.

In 2024, support was provided to large foster families in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as internally displaced families in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Transcarpathian, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

In 2025, the Olena Zelenska Foundation, together with UNICEF in Ukraine, launched the From House to Home initiative. The initiative helps large foster families who received housing through a state grant equip their homes according to their needs.

As part of the initiative, 105 large foster families across Ukraine received assistance to furnish and equip homes purchased in 2024–2025 through the state grant program.

In 2026, the Foundation continues to expand humanitarian support for large foster families.

A girl is standing by an open van holding a cardboard box, while two boys help unload other boxes. Another person is inside the van. It appears that the group is participating in volunteer work or a delivery.
Several cardboard boxes, some with text on labels, are stacked outdoors on a paved area. In front of the boxes are two bicycles—a small red children’s bike and a larger black one. A bit of greenery is visible nearby.
