The Government of Romania Joins the Project of Olena Zelenska Foundation "Room for Childhood"

22 November 2023
The Romanian government has decided to allocate 100,000 euros through the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid) to support the "Room for Childhood" project. Thanks to this donation, Olena Zelenska Foundation will purchase generators with a capacity of 17.6 kW for each house under construction for large foster families.

The Olena Zelenska Foundation now has another partner for the "Room for Childhood" project. A donation agreement was signed by Nina Horbachova, the director of the Foundation, and Alexandru–Victor Micula, the Ambassador of Romania to Ukraine on behalf of the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid).

This donation will help make the homes for large foster families energy-independent.

As part of the agreement, donors from Romania will contribute 100,000 euros to support the "Room for Childhood" project. With these funds, Olena Zelenska Foundation will purchase diesel generators with a capacity of 17.6 kW for each house currently being built for large foster families.

These powerful generators will ensure a continuous and uninterrupted power supply.

"We thank our partners from the Romanian Government and the RoAid for the opportunity to make new homes for large foster families energy independent. Now, families raising up to ten foster children will not have to worry about being left without light during potential crises or blackouts," said Nina Horbachova, Director of Olena Zelenska Foundation.

The Olena Zelenska Foundation aims to provide a new, warm home for every large foster family made homeless by the war. We are grateful to the Romanian government and the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid) for the support and for the concrete steps taken to implement our "Room for Childhood" project.

Additional Info:

Because of the war, at least 80 homes of large foster families have been destroyed or damaged. The Foundation's "Room for Childhood" project aims to provide new homes for these families, funded entirely by international donors. To date, the project has received support from the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Estonia (Estonian Centre for International Development Cooperation, ESTDEV), as well as the Australian Minderoo Foundation. The first fourteen houses are being built. In addition to new homes, each extended family will receive basic necessities, furniture, appliances, water heaters and heating systems, including generators.
